Option 3: USDC/NOAA Distance Learning Seafood HACCP Workshop

Course Description

USDC/NOAA’s distance learning option meets the body of knowledge requirements established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for HACCP training as outlined in 21 CFR Part 123.10, incorporating the training curriculum developed by the Seafood HACCP Alliance, a national committee of which the USDC/NOAA is a founding member.  Participants will learn to use the 4th edition of FDA’s Fish and Fishery Products Hazards and Controls Guidance (FDA Guide) to apply HACCP principles in order to meet FDA’s Seafood HACCP Regulatory requirements.

Course Design

All participants must complete an online orientation course hosted by Cornell University prior to being accepted into the Distance Learning Course-this course is $60.00 per person.  The USDC/NOAA distance learning course is divided into three modules which cover the three-day curriculum.  Each module is comprised of prerequisite online work and mandatory attendance during online classroom sessions held via WebEx. Individuals need to set aside approximately 12 hours per module for prerequisite, classroom and homework. While providing a lot of flexibility, distance Learning courses require that individuals have excellent time management skills; individuals who do not complete the work within the assignment weeks will not meet the course completion qualifications and will not receive a certificate.

Minimum System Requirements

Distance learning participants will complete their coursework through online self-paced activities and by participating in instructor-led, virtual classes using the WebEx training meeting platform.  While most current-day computers and internet systems have sufficient capacity, please link here for the minimum system requirements for internet connectivity. If you do not meet these minimums, you will need to choose an alternative to the distance learning course.
